How Noakai Got His Name
09.29.04 (11:49 pm) [edit]
We made up Noakai's name with other hawaiian names/words. We always like Kai, but it was not sounding quite right, we also liked Noa, but it wasn't quite right either.
We looked at the soul in front of us that was our son and thought he was both beautiful and strong, and wanted his name to embody these qualities.
In Hawaiian, Kai means ocean and I read that Noa means freedom. There is also a Hawaiian name "Kainoa", but we wanted something less common. We looked at all the Kai & Noa names and combos and finally came up with Noakai. It sounded both strong and beautiful to us. A unique name and baby was born! It is a made-up name, if you ask a hawaiian person what Noakai means, they won't know what you're talking about.
We did a search online, and there was no other Noakai except for an old japanese comic book hero! Now Noakai has his own website, www.noakai.com. Go there for a big dose of super cuteness.

Noakai Update September 18
09.18.04 (11:52 am) [edit]
Noakai is amazing and beautiful. We just had his Namkaran (Naming Ceremony) on September 7th, 2004. A friend who is an interfaith minister (Camille Diamond) led the ceremony, another friend (Nil Bhattacharya) played the sitar, and we asked all the guests to bring a blessing which everyone shared in a circle around the baby.
Some of his blessings: May your life be rich & deep like the ocean. May you know the glow of kindnesses; and the lightness of laughter and joy through all your days. We wish him a long life of good health, abundant joy, and much laughter.
He is going through a growth spurt and grew 2 inches in the last 3 days. At 12 weeks he is 26 inches and 16 pounds. Today (9/18/04) he learned how to squeal joyfully, sounding like a big boy. Also, he keeps getting cuter by the minute.
I had a dream on Sunday that I brought Noakai to meet my spiritual elders, Dadi Janki and Mohini Bhen. Dadi lives in London and travels all over the world, so I didn't know when next she'd be in NYC. On Monday I saw Dadi's picture in the Metro, advertising for a program she'd be speaking at the next day. So we went as a family and Noey got to meet Dadi and Mohini Bhen, and it was just like my dream.
I really feel like he brought me to that event and to that meeting. He is a very special soul.
